WhatsApp Plans to Introduce Voice Message Transcription for Android Users, Catching Up with iOS Counterparts

After nearly a year of iOS users enjoying the convenience of transcribing voice messages on WhatsApp, it’s now time for Android owners to join in on the benefits.

WhatsApp is actively developing the same transcription functionality for Android, aiming to provide its users with a time-saving feature in the near future.

Evidence of this development was found in the code of WhatsApp Beta for Android (version 2.24.7.7), as analyzed by @AssembleDebug from TheSpAndroid.

The feature will utilize the speech recognition software on users’ devices, and enabling transcription will require a 150MB download, according to the code.

Users can rest assured about their privacy, as the end-to-end encryption that applies to voice messages will also be extended to voice transcripts.

The feature will be accessible through the Settings > Chats menu.

While there is no specific release date, this feature may appear in upcoming WhatsApp beta releases at any time, bringing the platform on par with competitors like Telegram and Google Messages, which already offer transcription tools for Android.

Although the exact limitations of this feature are yet to be disclosed, it is certainly an exciting addition for WhatsApp users on the Android platform.
